Think of it like opening a little treasure chest of tattoo wisdom…minus the pirate hat (unless you’re into that sort of thing 😉).

The First Few Days: Second Skin Care - Tattoo after care

After your session, your artist will usually apply a second skin bandage. Think of it as a little shield that keeps bacteria and irritation away while giving your tattoo the best start on its healing journey.

How long to keep it on depends on the size, placement, and any specific advice from your artist—usually about three to five days. In some cases, you might pop back the next day to have it replaced if your artist recommends it. This helps make sure your tattoo gets off to a healthy, clean start.

If you notice any moisture, fluid buildup, or irritation under the bandage, remove it right away and reach out to us so it can be replaced. A little attention now goes a long way in keeping your tattoo looking amazing from day one.

✨ Ink Sack Notice: Depending on the amount of shading, blackwork, or heavy tattooing, you may develop what’s called an “ink sack.” This is a pocket of plasma mixed with excess ink that forms under the second skin. It can look concerning, but it’s completely normal. If this happens, we recommend purchasing a box of second skin so you can replace the bandage at home, keeping the area clean and preventing leakage.✨

Removing the Second Skin - How to and what to expect

Once those first few healing days are behind you, it’s time to give your tattoo some TLC so it stays happy and healthy.

If your bandage feels extra sticky, just loosen it with some lukewarm water—it makes removing it way easier. When cleaning, stick to a gentle, odorless antibacterial soap and skip anything that could snag, like towels or rags. Pat it dry with a fresh paper towel and you’re good to go.

Wait about 45 minutes to an hour before adding a thin layer of lotion. Just enough to keep it moisturized without creating a soggy environment—your tattoo will thank you for it.

A little care now = smooth healing, minimal irritation, and vibrant, long-lasting ink. Plus, you’ll have a tattoo you’ll be proud to show off—some might even swear it’s brand new! But no matter the age, it’s our little secret ;)

Moisturizing & Lotions

After cleaning your tattoo, gently smooth on a thin layer of a gentle, unscented lotion to keep your skin hydrated. Products like Aquaphor or creams with Vitamin E are great choices because they support healing and help your tattoo look its best. Try to avoid scented or heavily fragranced lotions, as these can sometimes irritate fresh skin or cause redness and itching.

You don’t need a lot—just a light, even layer is enough. Too much lotion can leave your tattoo feeling soggy and slow down healing. Keeping it just moisturized enough will help the skin heal cleanly and keep your colors vibrant for years to come.

A little care now goes a long way—your tattoo will thank you with a smooth, healthy heal and stunning results that last.

Daily Care During Healing

Caring for a new tattoo doesn’t have to feel like a chore—think of it as giving your art the attention it deserves. During healing, gently wash your tattoo a few times a day with unscented soap and lukewarm water. Pat it dry with a fresh paper towel and apply a thin layer of lotion to keep your skin happy and hydrated.

Loose clothing is your friend—let your tattoo breathe and avoid rubbing or irritation. And whatever you do, resist the urge to pick, scratch, or peel! Your skin knows what it’s doing, so let it shed naturally.

Even after your tattoo has fully healed, keeping up a little TLC goes a long way. Moisturize, protect it from the sun, and treat your skin well. With a simple routine, your tattoo will stay sharp, vibrant, and looking amazing for years to come.

Pro Tip: Think of your tattoo like a living piece of art—it thrives when cared for. Stick with these habits, and you’ll not only keep your ink looking fresh but also discover the joy of truly healthy, glowing skin. Ready to take your tattoo care to the next level? Things to Avoid

Taking care of your tattoo doesn’t stop at washing and moisturizing—there are a few things to watch out for while it’s healing:

Direct sunlight: Fresh tattoos are sensitive, and even short sun exposure can burn the skin and dull your colors. Keep your ink covered or shaded until it’s fully healed.

Swimming or soaking: Pools, lakes, oceans—any water with bacteria can slow healing or cause infection. It’s worth skipping swims for a little while to give your tattoo the safest start.

Over-moisturizing: It might be tempting to slather on lotion, but too much can lead to irritation, breakouts, or delayed healing. Stick to a light, even layer to keep your skin happy.

Paying attention to these details might feel small, but it makes a huge difference. Follow these tips, and your tattoo will heal clean, vibrant, and ready to show off—feeling as good as it looks

At the end of the day, your tattoo deserves just as much love as the moment you first got it. Following proper aftercare not only keeps your ink looking fresh and vibrant, but also helps your skin heal the right way. And remember—you’re never on this journey alone.
